Thais Feltrin interview about her art

An interview with artist Thais Feltrin

I found out about Thais Feltrin on Instagram. A lot of Katy fans were raving about her artwork. Katy herself even called her a queen. I had been following her for a while and was insanely jealous of her amazing jealous. I asked her if she was interested in a short interview and she was. So here it is: An interview with the queen of pop star drawings.

Could you introduce yourself?

I’m a 19 year old girl trapped in a 15 year old body, I’m from Brazil, soon to be moving to Orlando for college, obsessed with female pop singers (some chick called Katy Perry), animals in general (dogs) and drawing of course.

Your drawings are really amazing. When did you first start drawing and how did you get so good at it?

I draw since I can remember. I mean, I never really thought “I think drawing is very cool I’m gonna start drawing now” or something like this, you know? It was a natural thing, and I’m drawing since forever. And I didn’t do it thinking about improving, I did because it was fun, I consider getting better as a consequence of doing it so often. I never took classes. It’s so much easier when you start as a kid because the improvement comes naturally and you don’t worry about it, when you start as a grown up you just wanna get better and it takes a lot of practice + time to be good, so a lot of people just quit with the excuse “I have no talent”. Talent helps, of course, but everyone can learn, you just gotta be patient and take your time.

How did you develop your own style?

It was hard. I can’t tell exactly how, I only got it this year and it’s still not exactly what I’m looking for. But I love cartoons, Disney inspires me a lot and there’s a lot of inspiring people on Instagram as well.

How do you come up with ideas for your drawings and what kind of materials do you use?

The ideas usually come out of nowhere when I’ less expecting. Or when a picture of Katy with a cool outfit comes out and I just love it and feel the need to draw it. Overthinking never works for me. I use mostly colored pencils (Polychromos from Faber-Castell) and Pigma Micro pens.

I’ve noticed you mostly draw pop stars. Do you also draw other subjects?

Yes you’re right. I do but I don’t post them, I keep them for myself since they’re just sketches. Actually, I draw A LOT of animals, really, more than humans. I can’t have a pen in my hands without sketching a dog. My school notebooks are all covered with dogs sketches. But that’s it, humans and animals, the only things I do.

Would you like to become a professional artist?

That’s the dream. I’ll be studying computer animation, hopefully making movies very soon.

Is there anything you would like to say to those who follow you and are inspired by your work?

Nah I’m fine. Jk. Just keep working, babes. And remember that no pain, no gain, you gotta practice and take your time. And don’t ever compare your chapter 1 to someone else’s chapter 20.
