Friday, 2nd of June. I am in the city of love, a.k.a Paris. It’s one of those perfect days, not too hot and not too cold. But I’m not here to just admire the amazing architecture and beauty Paris has to offer. Nope. With a couple of friends, we make our way to the five-star hotel Le Meurice, situated opposite the Jardin des Tuileres (great place to play Pokemon Go, by the way!). After a bit of a struggle, as apparently we do not look rich enough for this hotel, we are led to the seventh floor. It’s the roof terrace and it is here we will be hearing Witness, Katy Perry’s fourth album, for the first time.
It’s back! Music Monday has finally returned to the Sassologist! I don’t know why I stopped doing them in the first place. But anyway, it’s back and today I want to talk to you about songs that are guilty pleasures. We all have them, there’s nothing to be ashamed about, but let’s just have a look at what defines a guilty pleasure song. Of course I will also share mine.
Yesterday was the day Katy Perry returned back to the music scene. While this will either make you scream with joy or shrug your shoulders, it is big for me. I have been a KP fan ever since she hit the scene. Her songs are incredibly catchy, her shows are amazing and she’s a very sweet person. What’s not to love? I have to say, I was a bit nervous before the song came out. I wanted it to be good because I wanted her to have a hit again so she would still claim the crown. Luckily, I was not disappointed.
To quote the amazing Dame Helen Mirren: “I think we can all agree that 2016 has been a big pile of shit.” We lost just too many popculture icons way too young, too sudden and too soon. While we can only hope that 2017 will just take away those legends who had a long and fulfilled life, let’s look back at who we sadly lost in 2016. We salute them and raise our glass in thanks for all they did.
