Event Report: First Look Festival

Last weekend, the city of Utrecht was home to the annual First Look Festival. The festival is the place to be for gamers. Players could play new games, some of which won’t be out until next year. The queues to play these games were quite long. Some gamers waited over three hours to play a game just for twenty minutes, but when you are a hardcore gamer, that’s worth it. We were present on Sunday and wandered around the festival to see what it was all about.

Every big company in the business was represented at the festival. PlayStation, Nintendo, Blizzard, you name it. The game that most people played was of course Fortnite. Mainly the young players gathered around the stands where you could play this game. Personally I was very excited about Pokémon Let’s Go. While we didn’t get to play the game ourselves (due to the long lines), it was cool to see how it actually worked. I initially had my doubts, but it seems to me that the game is going to be fun. There were some stands which had Virtual Reality experiences, but somehow there weren’t as many as we expected. The lines for these games weren’t as long as for the others.

Apart from playing games, there was also plenty of merchandise to go around. All in all, for the hardcore gamers, this is the place to be. Have you been to First Look Festival? Let us know in the comment what was the best game you played, and tell us what merchandise you scored!
