The remake of one of Stephen King’s most popular works, IT is currently smashing all box office records world wide. It seems that 27 years after the mini-series, people are still interested in the terror clown. For those who left the cinema in excitement to see more of Bill Skargard’s Pennywise, do not fret. You won’t have to wait another 27 years before the dancing clown will grace your screen again. The Hollywood Reporter claims that the sequel to the 2017 blockbuster will be released on September 6, 2019.
It Chapter 2 will continue where IT (now IT Chapter 1), left off. The Losers Club have fought Pennywise together for the first time and were victorious. However, Pennywise is not truly beaten and is merely forced into early hibernation. The Losers Club make a pact to come together once again as adults to defeat IT once and for all once it awakes once more. The sequel will center around the adult Losers club and their final stand against Pennywise. Stephen King’s novel of the same name contains over 1,000 pages, which makes it impossible to cram it all into merely 2 hours. The success of the film has definitely given the greenlight for a sequel.
Back in 1990, the novel was already adapted to the small screen in the shape of a mini-series. Back then it was a big hit, traumatising children all over the world with Tim Curry’s portrayal as Pennywise. The 2017 version boasts an even creepier take on the horror clown. The flick made a whopping $478.1 million worldwide, while it was made with a budget of just $35 million. In the short time that it’s been released, it has also become the top-grossing horror film of all time. Make sure you also check out our review of the 2017 version of IT.
