There are many things you can say about Suicide Squad. Bottom line is that despite the fact that it did well at the box office, the film is generally not appreciated by fans. However, Suicide Squad did give us Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Alongside Deathshot, she was the film’s savior. It is not surprising that Harley Quinn will get a solo film. After the success of Wonder Woman, DC must have realized that their female characters are the true moneymakers.
After Patty Jenkins delivered a smash hit with Wonder Woman, Warner Bros must have realized that female directors are the way to go. Cathy Yan is first in line to helm the Harley Quinn solo. Yan’s debut feature was the film Dead Pigs. It must have really impressed the right people at Warner Bros. We are excited to see where she will take it.
Birds of Prey
Not much is known about the exact story. As far as we know, it’ll probably partly be based on the Birds of Prey comic book series. Initially the Birds of Prey premise started as a partnership between Black Canary and Barbara Gordon. Later on more heroines were added. Harley Quinn was an antagonist in the series. Movieweb writes that the solo effort will most likely center around Harley and a yet-to-be-cast Batgirl. There is also a solo Batgirl film in the works; so it all pretty much makes sense to get these characters into a film together. Most likely Poison Ivy and Catwoman will also be appearing in the film as Harley’s sidekicks.
Considering the popularity of the character, and the fact that Margot Robbie is now an Academy Award nominated actress, it’s not surprising that the Harley Quinn film has priority over Suicide Squad 2. It’s said that SS2 will shoot right after the Harley Quinn shoot is done. According to this tweet, DC wants to pull a Marvel and introduce Batgirl before letting the character star in Suicide Squad 2.
As for SUICIDE SQUAD 2, clearly moving out of 2018 shoot. The move to go with BOP not only had a lot to do with Hodson’s script but also the idea of doing with BATGIRL what Marvel did with Black Panther in CIVIL WAR by introducing them into universe before giving them own film

Will the Joker be involved?
One of the things many people criticized after the release of Suicide Squad, was the portrayal of the toxic relationship between the Joker and Harley. Not necessarily the one portrayed in the film, but also in the comics. For many fans of the character, the two are relationship goals. However, as this article perfectly describes, the Joker never actually cared about Harley. In the comics, he abuses her and tricks her into thinking it is love. While the Suicide Squad version of the relationship is toned down, their relationship is anything but goals.
It would be interesting if the solo film pursues Harley’s relationship with Poison Ivy, as featured in the DC Bombshells series. This is probably unlikely, as the Joker and Harley together was probably one of the most interesting things about Suicide Squad. However, we can’t help but root for some Harley Ivy love. The two make a perfect pair with Ivy always having Harley’s back.
Are you excited about the Harley Quinn film or would you have preferred to see Suicide Squad 2 first?
