Six films to look forward to in the second half of 2018

It’s hard to believe that we are almost halfway through 2018 already. Time flies when you’re having fun. While cinematically we’ve already had some pretty big highlights, there is still plenty to come. This is a good thing, considering we still have to wait a year to see what happens in Avengers 4From dinosaurs to wizards, here are the films you should look forward to in the second half of 2018.

1. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

After the massive success of the Jurassic Park reboot Jurassic World, it was only a matter of time before a sequel would find its way to the big screen. As Chris Pratt is a joy to watch, I’m certain Fallen Kingdom will not disappoint. Another plus is Jeff Goldblum who seems to be very present in this film. And no one can say no to pissed off dinosaurs.

IMDB says the following about the plot:

When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.

The Incredibles 2

In 2004, The Incredibles was released. It was a film about a family of superheroes who are forced to hide their powers and live a normal life. In the end, they have to defeat a former fan who plots to wipe out all superheroes with his killer robot. The film grossed $633 million dollars worldwide and won two Academy Awards. And still it took over a decade for a sequel to be released. The film is heavily anticipated, especially among adults who were kids when the first film came out.

IMDB says the following about the plot:

Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) is left to care for Jack-Jack while Helen (Elastigirl) is out saving the world.

3. Ant-Man and the Wasp

Apart from Captain Marvel in 2019, there will be no more Marvel films before Avengers 4. Except for Ant-Man and the Wasp. Ant-Man was released in 2015 and the character made an appearance in Captain America: Civil War. The film grossed $519 million worldwide and received generally favourable reviews. The events of Ant-Man and the Wasp will take place before the events of Infinity Warso there will probably be no clues about what happened.

IMDB says the following about the plot:

As Scott Lang balances being both a Super Hero and a father, Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym present an urgent new mission that finds the Ant-Man fighting alongside The Wasp to uncover secrets from their past.

4. The Darkest Minds

This film is based on Alexandra Bracken’s novel of the same name, starring Amanda Stenberg, Mandy Moore and Gwendoline Christie. The story centers around a plague that kills most children. Those who survive are left with special abilities. Ruby is one of the most powerful, and she escapes from her government internment camp along with a couple of other teenagers. They start a rebellion to take revenge on the government that tortured their generation.

While the dystopian film hype died with the last Divergent film, it will still be interesting to see how this one pans out. Here the kids have special abilities, something Katniss or Triss did not have. This is either going to be a huge success, or a huge fail.

5. Venom

2018 will also be the year Sony’s Marvel Universe is launched, starting with the Spiderman spin-off Venom. The film stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom. It will be a standalone film and not much is known about the plot. Although judging from the trailer, it will probably focus on Venom’s origin. It is rumoured that Sony wants the film to have an R-rating, as they have with Deadpool. We are curious to see what this one will be like. The trailer looks very promising.

6. Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald

The second instalment in the Fantastic Beasts series wasn’t without controversy. Many people felt that it was not okay for Johnny Depp to be allowed to play the main antagonist in the series, after allegations of domestic abuse. However, Depp is a massive part in the franchise and will remain so. Furthermore, the Crimes of Grindelwald introduces us to Jude Law’s take on a young Albus Dumbledore. Judging from the trailer, he will do an excellent job. The film will also bring back familiar characters such as Newt, Tina, Queenie and Jacob. Credence is also still alive and seemingly very angry. We’ll see where this film will take us, although I am especially excited about Jude Law.

Which film are you looking forward to this year? Let us know!
