What to expect from Harry Potter Wizards Unite

As all of you Potterheads know, two mobile games set in the magical world of Harry Potter, were announced for 2018. One of them is out already. Hogwarts Mystery is a point-and-click game which is fun but drains your energy faster than you can say Quidditch. Another game is set to come out very soon. An exact date has not been set yet, but it promises to be interesting. The game will be created by Niantic, famous for Pokémon Go and Ingress. But what can we expect? Knowing Niantic, we will have to go out into the real world. Here are our predictions for Harry Potter Wizards Unite.

1. Choosing a team

As is the case with Ingress and Pokémon Go, it would not be surprising to see that we will have to pick a team. I think we have to choose between Death Eaters and The Order of The Phoenix. That would provide an interesting dynamic. Or of course, we will have to choose one of the houses. While that seems like a logical choice, it is kind of old now. So hopefully they will steal the Death Eaters and Order idea.

2. Collecting magical items

While you don’t have gyms in Harry’s world, there will probably be something similar to Pokéstops where you can collect magical items. Chocolate Frogs maybe? Puking pastilles? A teacup to catch an Occamy? Ingredients to brew potions for special missions? Who knows! There are many possibilities. Of course not as obvious as the Poké balls in Pokémon Go, but there are quite a lot of directions Niantic can take with this.

3. Duelling

The whole point in Ingress and Pokémon Go is conquering territory or gyms for your team. This is one aspect I think will definitely be implemented in the game. Instead of gyms or Mind Units, there will be special places which you can conquer. I think it would be cool to implement duelling in this game. So the higher your level, the better the spells you can learn. It would be nice if you could battle the avatar of the person who conquered the point of interest. I would like it to be as competitive as Pokémon Go and Ingress. The competition makes the other games interesting and it adds to team pride. It would also be fun if Niantic introduced Player vs. Player duelling. However, Pokémon Go has yet to have this feature, so we will have to wait and see if Niantic pulls it off in this game. Expelliarmus!

4. Catching magical creatures?

I don’t think this will be the case, unless the game is based around Newt Scamander. In that case it would not be surprising to have a magical suitcase in which you can collect creatures. However, I hope this won’t happen as it is not in the style of the series. Although it would be fun to encounter a Hungarian Horntail from time to time.

5. Missions

Something that Pokémon Go implemented way too late are missions. By giving players assignments which unlock great rewards, you keep players reeled in. I hope that Niantic has learned from their mistakes and make this a thing from the get go. This way, it won’t feel so pointless to walk around for hours just to claim territory for your team. It will give the game purpose and a sense of direction. Something Pokémon Go missed in the early days, which cost the game a lot of players.

For now we will have to keep on guessing what will happen. I do hope Niantic have stepped up their game. They were unprepared for the success of Pokémon Go, which resulted in many crashes. PoGo still suffers from errors now and then and the customer service is appalling. But we live and learn and hopefully so does Niantic.

What do you think we can expect from Harry Potter Wizards Unite?
