Last week we discussed how to get front row. I assume all of you have taken notes because my tips are obviously fool-proof. Anyway, in today’s music Monday, I am going to share with you how you can meet your favourite artist. In a respectful way. That means no stalking, okay?
Some artists are barely accessible, unless you stalk them. But I am very anti-stalking so I am not going to give you advice on that. If your favourite artist is never in the mood to meet people, well then suck it up. Or find a new favourite artist. Or become famous yourself so you will meet them at events. The choice is yours.
So to start off, I will discuss the ways that will involve the least sweat and tears and effort.
1. Buy a meet and greet
Most big stars have this option available. It might even be your only shot at meeting them, because if you can charge $1000, why the hell would you go out and meet these peasants in the street? It might not be affordable for us peasants, but you can always sell your body for a quick 1-second photo op. Think of all the facebook likes you will get!
2. Win a meet and greet
Check every website. Call every radio station. Try to find the magic words: “WIN MEET AND GREET WITH (insert favourite artist)”. Then campaign to win that meet and greet. Bribe them with puppies and kittens if you have to. But you have to win because then you do not have to worry about meeting your favourite artist in a dark alley and you will look flawless on the pictures. Unless you cry. But don’t cry!
3. Know somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody who can get you in
Networking is key here. There is always a via via via way in. Except with massive artists. Then you must be really really lucky. Unless you are best friends with the artist and he/she requests you. But why are you reading this then?
Here’s a video of my meet and greet experience with Justin Bieber. This is years ago. Everybody is a Belieber now but I met him when it was still uncool to like him because I am cool like that:
On to the other tips. There is only one tip I can give you really.
4. Wait at the artist entrance
Go early. Walk around the venue and try to find the spot where he/she might come out. Talk to people. Sometimes people who work at the venue will be kind enough to help you and sometimes there are stalkers who have been outside all day who say him/her go in and know where he/she will come out. It’s as simple as that. You must not be shy on your mission. Then find a strategic spot, especially if a lot of people are waiting. That means, never be second row. Always be first. But be respectful (and practise your elbow punches). It might not be the ideal way of meeting an artist, and they might not always stop, but at least you can say they know of your existence. That is worth something!
Advice on what not to do
- Don’t be a stalker. Don’t go to the hotel unless the artist asked you to come (which is almost never).
- Do not even think about going to their houses, you stalking creep. Even walking around their neighbourhoods is weird but going to their homes is a no go. Do you want to be known as that psycho stalker freak? I do not think so.
- Do not scream when you meet your favourite artist. Seriously.
- Do not cry. For real, your inspiration is in front of you and all you do is bawl your eyeballs out? Seize the moment. You won’t look good on the picture if your mascara has been runnin
So that was my advice for today. Hope it has been super helpful.
